Possible Causes
Broken pilot wire inside J1772 cable, Failed solder joint at handle pilot pin, Loose pilot terminal on control board, Cable strain damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker before any cable testing or replacement.
- Flex test: While observing the EVSE LEDs (with power ON), gently flex the cable near the handle and near the EVSE. Intermittent changes suggest a broken conductor.
- Continuity check (advanced): With power OFF and EVSE opened, use a multimeter to check continuity from the control board pilot terminal to the pilot pin in the handle. An open reading confirms a break.
- Inspect handle pin: Look for a loose or recessed pilot pin in the J1772 connector.
An open pilot conductor cannot be reliably repaired in the field; replace the entire J1772 cable and handle assembly.
