Possible Causes
Unstable AC supply, Faulty pilot signal generation, Loose low-voltage connections on control board, Failing control relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker before opening the EVSE. Repeated relay operation can cause wear and arcing.
- Check supply stability: Have an electrician verify that the branch circuit voltage is stable and not dropping significantly when the EVSE attempts to start.
- Inspect low-voltage connectors: With power OFF, reseat any plug-in connectors on the control board, especially those feeding relays and sensors.
- Try another EV: Confirm the behavior is not caused by a specific vehicle sending erratic pilot responses.
- Board replacement: If supply is stable and multiple vehicles cause the same chatter, the control board relay drive circuitry may be failing and should be replaced.
Do not continue to use the EVSE with rapid relay clicking; this can lead to premature relay or contactor failure.
