Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not bypass or defeat ground fault protection. Turn OFF the breaker before opening the unit.
- Unplug vehicle: Disconnect the J1772 connector from the vehicle. If the STATUS LED stops flashing and returns to normal, the fault may be in the vehicle.
- Dry the connector: Inspect the J1772 handle for water, condensation, or corrosion. Gently dry with a clean cloth and allow several hours in a dry environment.
- Inspect cable: Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections along the entire length of the cable. Any exposed conductor requires immediate replacement of the cable assembly.
- Reset EVSE: Turn OFF the breaker for 5 minutes, then turn it ON. Observe if the 1-blink pattern returns with no vehicle connected. If it does, the internal GFCI circuit or control board is likely faulty.
- Test with another EV: If possible, test with a different vehicle to confirm whether the ground fault follows the EV or stays with the EVSE.
Persistent 1-blink ground fault indication with no vehicle connected usually indicates a failed GFCI sensor or control board that must be replaced by a qualified technician.
