Possible Causes

Open equipment ground connection to EVSE, Loose ground lug inside unit, Corroded ground conductor, Miswired supply circuit without proper ground

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not operate an EVSE without a verified equipment ground. Turn OFF the breaker before inspection.

  • Check panel ground: Have a qualified electrician verify that the branch circuit feeding the EVSE has a continuous equipment grounding conductor back to the service panel.
  • Inspect internal ground: With power OFF and cover removed, confirm that the green or bare ground wire is securely attached to the EVSE ground terminal and chassis bonding point.
  • Tighten connections: Tighten the ground lug screw to manufacturer torque specs. Look for corrosion or discoloration and clean or replace the lug if necessary.
  • Continuity test: Using a multimeter, measure continuity between the EVSE chassis and the service panel ground bar. High resistance or open circuit indicates a ground wiring problem that must be corrected.

Do not bypass ground detection. The EVSE must not be used until a proper equipment ground is restored and the 4-blink error clears.
