STATUS LED flashing 5 times repeatedly (5-blink pattern), EVSE refuses to start charging.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: High temperatures can damage insulation and components. Turn OFF the breaker before opening the unit.
- Allow cooling: If the EVSE is installed in direct sun or a confined space, stop charging and allow several hours for the unit to cool. Try again in cooler conditions.
- Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the EVSE per ClipperCreek installation instructions. Remove any obstructions blocking airflow.
- Inspect for heat damage: With power OFF, remove the cover and look for browned PCB areas, melted insulation, or discolored terminals, especially at the contactor and input lugs.
- Tighten lugs: Using an insulated screwdriver and torque specs, re-torque line and load terminals. Loose connections can overheat and trigger thermal protection.
- Sensor check (advanced): The temperature sensor is typically integrated on the control board. If the unit reports over-temperature at normal ambient and no damage is visible, the control board may need replacement.
Persistent 5-blink over-temperature errors after addressing ventilation and connections indicate a failing control board or sensor that should be replaced.
