Possible Causes

Shorted contactor coil, Shorted control board component, Miswired line conductors, Internal wiring insulation damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips instantly; this indicates a serious fault. Turn OFF and lock out the breaker.

  • Inspect wiring (power OFF): Open the EVSE and check for pinched wires, exposed conductors, or screws driven into wiring.
  • Check contactor coil: Disconnect the coil leads and try powering the EVSE (without allowing charging). If the breaker no longer trips, the coil may be shorted.
  • Measure insulation (advanced): A megohmmeter can be used by a qualified technician to test insulation resistance between line and ground.

Replace any shorted components (contactor, control board, wiring) before restoring power. If miswiring is found, correct per ClipperCreek diagrams.
