How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not attempt to manually force the contactor closed.
- Step 1 – Try another vehicle: Confirm whether the issue is specific to one EV.
- Step 2 – Listen for contactor: During a start attempt, listen for a solid click from inside the charger. No click suggests a control or coil issue.
- Step 3 – Check pilot cable: Inspect the handle and cable for damage that could prevent proper pilot communication.
- Step 4 – Internal inspection (power OFF): Open the enclosure and verify that the contactor coil wires are firmly connected to the control board and the contactor.
- Step 5 – Technician tests: A qualified technician can test the contactor coil resistance and verify that the control board outputs a close signal during a charge request. Replace the contactor or control board as needed.
