Possible Causes
Damaged J1772/CCS handle pilot pin, Loose pilot wire inside charge handle, Faulty control board pilot driver circuit, Corroded vehicle inlet pilot contact
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the Electrify America home charger at the dedicated breaker before opening any covers. Do not work on live high‑voltage circuits.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Turn the charger OFF at the breaker for 2 minutes, then turn it back ON. Reconnect to the vehicle and check if E01 clears.
- Step 2 – Inspect charge handle: Examine the J1772/CCS handle pilot pin (smallest pin) for bending, discoloration, or contamination. Clean gently with a soft, dry brush. Do not use liquids.
- Step 3 – Check cable strain: Look for kinks or crushing along the charge cable near the handle. Excessive bending can break the pilot conductor inside.
- Step 4 – Test with another EV (if available): If the error appears on multiple vehicles, the fault is likely in the charger, not the car.
- Step 5 – Internal inspection (qualified persons only): With power OFF and verified with a meter, remove the front cover. Trace the pilot wire from the control board to the cable gland. Look for loose terminal screws, broken conductors, or burned spots on the control PCB near the pilot driver circuit.
- When to stop: If the pilot wire is damaged inside the cable or the control board appears burned, do not attempt board-level repair. Replace the cable/handle assembly or main control board and have insulation resistance and functional tests performed by a licensed technician.
