Possible Causes

Welded main power contactor, Faulty contactor feedback microswitch, Control board contactor driver failure, Overheated contactor terminals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: The main contactor switches high current. Turn off the main breaker and verify absence of voltage with a meter before touching internal components.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Turn OFF the breaker for 5 minutes, then ON. If E03 returns immediately, proceed to inspection.
  • Step 2 – Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge, you should hear a distinct click from the internal contactor. Continuous buzzing or no click suggests a mechanical or coil issue.
  • Step 3 – Visual inspection: With power OFF, remove the cover and locate the main contactor (typically a block device with heavy gauge wires). Check for discoloration, melted plastic, or burned terminals.
  • Step 4 – Mechanical test (power OFF): Gently tap the side of the contactor with an insulated tool to see if it is mechanically stuck. Do not force it. A welded contactor must be replaced, not freed and reused.
  • Step 5 – Replace if defective: If terminals are burned or the feedback wiring/microswitch is damaged, replace the contactor assembly with the Electrify America‑specified model and torque all lugs to manufacturer specs.
  • Step 6 – Board check: If a new contactor does not clear E03, the control board contactor driver or feedback circuit may be faulty and the board should be replaced by a qualified technician.
