Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation openings, Failed internal cooling fan, Faulty temperature sensor on power module, High ambient temperature exceeding rating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overheating can lead to fire. If the enclosure feels hot to the touch, shut off power and allow it to cool before inspection.
- Step 1 – Check ambient conditions: Verify the Electrify America charger is installed within the specified temperature range and not in direct sun or near other heat sources.
- Step 2 – Inspect vents: Ensure all intake and exhaust vents on the wallbox are clear of dust, spider webs, or obstructions. Clean with a soft brush or vacuum.
- Step 3 – Fan operation test: When powering up, listen for the internal fan. If it does not start or is noisy, the fan may be seized or failing.
- Step 4 – Internal inspection (power OFF): Remove the cover and check the fan wiring harness and connector to the control/power board. Reseat connectors and look for broken blades or debris.
- Step 5 – Temperature sensor check: Locate the temperature sensor(s) on the power module heatsink. Ensure they are firmly attached and their wiring is intact.
- Step 6 – Replace components: Replace a failed fan or temperature sensor with Electrify America‑approved parts. If sensors and fan are good but E08 persists, the power module or control board may be misreading temperature and require replacement.
