Possible Causes
Sustained high current in hot environment, Dust buildup on heatsinks, Failing cooling fan with reduced airflow, Poor wall mounting causing heat buildup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the charger to cool for at least 30 minutes before touching the enclosure or opening it.
- Step 1 – Reduce current: Use the Electrify America app or interface to lower the maximum charging current (e.g., from 40 A to 24 A) and see if the error stops occurring.
- Step 2 – Improve ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the charger per installation manual. Remove any stored items blocking airflow.
- Step 3 – Clean internal components (power OFF): Open the enclosure and gently blow out dust from heatsinks and the fan using dry compressed air. Hold the fan blades to prevent overspinning.
- Step 4 – Verify fan speed: After reassembly, power up and observe whether the fan runs at full speed under load. A slow or intermittent fan should be replaced.
- Step 5 – Check mounting surface: If mounted on an insulated or enclosed surface, consider remounting to a cooler, more open wall to improve heat dissipation.
