Possible Causes
Faulty PLC modem board, Damaged twisted pair communication wiring in cable, Firmware incompatibility with vehicle, Electrical noise interfering with PLC signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the charger. PLC circuits are low voltage but adjacent to high‑voltage components.
- Step 1 – Test with another vehicle: If possible, connect a different EV to determine whether the issue is vehicle‑specific.
- Step 2 – Power cycle and retry: Turn OFF the breaker for 2 minutes, then ON. Attempt a new session.
- Step 3 – Firmware check: Use the Electrify America app to verify the charger firmware is up to date. Apply any available updates.
- Step 4 – Inspect PLC module: With power OFF, open the enclosure and locate the PLC modem board (often near the pilot circuitry). Ensure its connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Step 5 – Cable inspection: Examine the output cable for severe kinks or crush damage that could affect the internal twisted pair used for PLC.
- Step 6 – Replace PLC module or cable: If communication remains unreliable across multiple vehicles, replace the PLC modem board. If physical cable damage is evident, replace the cable/handle assembly.
