Possible Causes
Shorted conductors in output cable, Foreign object or moisture bridging pins in handle, Internal wiring short at cable gland, Failed power module output stage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: A short circuit can cause severe arcing. Do not repeatedly reset and retry without inspection.
- Step 1 – Inspect connector: Examine the Electrify America handle pins for metal debris, bent pins, or moisture. Clean and dry thoroughly; do not use conductive cleaners.
- Step 2 – Cable check: Run your hand along the cable to feel for crushed or abnormally soft/hard spots that may indicate internal damage.
- Step 3 – Internal wiring (power OFF): Open the enclosure and inspect the cable termination area. Ensure no strands of wire are loose and touching adjacent terminals or the enclosure.
- Step 4 – Resistance test (qualified): With the cable disconnected from the power module, measure resistance between output conductors and ground. Very low resistance indicates a short in the cable/handle.
- Step 5 – Replace faulty component: Replace the cable/handle assembly if shorted. If the cable is good but the power module trips immediately, the power module output stage may be damaged and require replacement.
