Possible Causes
Damaged J1772 charge handle, Open circuit in pilot signal wire inside charge cable, Faulty control pilot driver on main control board, Corroded vehicle inlet pins
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the dedicated EV charger breaker at the main panel before opening any covers. Do not work on the unit while it is energized.
- Step 1 – Power cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then back ON. Reconnect the vehicle and see if E01 clears. If it clears, monitor for recurrence.
- Step 2 – Inspect the J1772 handle: With power OFF, examine the charge handle for bent, recessed, or contaminated pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean gently with a dry, non‑metallic brush. Do not use liquids.
- Step 3 – Check cable strain and kinks: Look along the entire length of the "Electrify Home" charge cable for severe kinks, cuts, or crushed sections that could break the pilot conductor. If damage is visible, the cable/handle assembly must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Test with another vehicle (if available): If E01 appears with multiple vehicles, the fault is likely in the charger. If it only appears with one vehicle, the issue may be the vehicle inlet.
- Step 5 – Internal inspection (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, locate the pilot signal harness from the main control board to the cable gland. Ensure the connector is fully seated and no pins are backed out or corroded. Reseat the connector.
- When to stop: If the error persists after these checks, the main control board or cable assembly is likely defective. Replacement involves high‑voltage circuits and should be done by a qualified technician.
