Possible Causes
Moisture inside power module, Damaged insulation on internal DC bus or AC output wiring, Contaminated or wet J1772 connector, Failed isolation monitoring circuit on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: An isolation fault can be hazardous. Turn off the breaker and do not use the charger until the cause is identified.
- Step 1 – Inspect for moisture: Check around the cable entry, rear gasket, and bottom of the "Electrify Home" enclosure for signs of water ingress. Dry the area and correct any sealing issues.
- Step 2 – Examine the handle: Look inside the J1772 connector for water, corrosion, or foreign objects. Dry thoroughly and clean with a dry brush.
- Step 3 – Visual wiring check: With power OFF and cover removed, inspect internal wiring for nicks, crushed insulation, or contact with the metal chassis.
- Step 4 – Allow drying time: If moisture is suspected, leave the unit open (power OFF) in a dry environment for 24 hours, then reassemble and test.
- Step 5 – Professional testing: If E17 persists, a technician should perform insulation resistance testing and may need to replace the power module or main control board.
