Possible Causes

Incorrect pilot duty cycle generation on main control board, Noise or interference on pilot line, Faulty pilot resistor network in J1772 handle, Poor connection at pilot terminal on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the charger or handling internal wiring.

  • Step 1 – Test with another vehicle: If possible, connect a different EV to see if the behavior is the same. This helps distinguish charger vs. vehicle issues.
  • Step 2 – Inspect cable and handle: Look for damage to the "Electrify Home" cable and handle. If the handle has been dropped or run over, internal pilot components may be damaged.
  • Step 3 – Reseat pilot connector: With power OFF and cover removed, locate the pilot wire connection on the main control board and ensure it is secure.
  • Step 4 – Avoid EMI sources: Ensure the charger cable is not tightly bundled with high‑frequency or large motor cables that could inject noise into the pilot line.
  • Step 5 – Replace cable or board: If E18 persists, the pilot resistor network in the handle or the pilot driver on the main board may be defective and require replacement.
