Possible Causes
Worn or loose contacts in J1772 handle, Undersized or damaged cable conductors, Poor crimp or solder joints in handle, High-resistance connection at vehicle inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Fire hazard: If any part is too hot to touch comfortably, stop using the charger until inspected.
- Stop charging: Unplug the vehicle and turn OFF the breaker.
- Inspect for discoloration: Look for browning, melting, or deformation on the J1772 handle, cable near the handle, and vehicle inlet.
- Smell for burning: A burnt plastic or electrical smell indicates overheating contacts.
- Do not continue use: Replace the Enphase cable/handle assembly if any damage is visible. If the vehicle inlet shows damage, have it serviced before further charging.
- Check current setting: Ensure the app current limit does not exceed the charger's and circuit's rating.
