Possible Causes
Welded main contactor in EO charger, Faulty contactor feedback microswitch, Loose wiring between contactor and EO main PCB, Overheated or worn contactor contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the charger at the main breaker and lock out if possible. Confirm absence of voltage with a suitable meter before opening the unit.
- Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge (before isolating), you should hear a distinct click from inside the EO charger. No click or a continuous hum can indicate a stuck or failed contactor.
- Inspect the contactor: With the cover removed and power off, locate the main contactor. Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or discoloration. Gently tug each power and control wire to ensure terminations are tight.
- Check feedback wiring: Many EO models use an auxiliary contact or feedback circuit to confirm contactor state. Verify the small‑gauge control wires are firmly seated on the contactor auxiliary terminals and on the main PCB.
- Manual contactor test (qualified persons only): With the unit still isolated, measure coil resistance across the contactor coil terminals; an open circuit indicates a failed coil. If you have access to a low‑voltage test bench, you can energize the coil to confirm mechanical movement, but do not do this on live mains.
- Replace if welded or damaged: If the contacts are welded (contactor remains closed when coil is de‑energized) or the housing is heat‑damaged, replace the contactor with the exact EO‑specified model and torque all terminals to manufacturer specs.
- Reset and test: Reassemble, restore power, and attempt a new charge. If E02 persists with a known‑good contactor, the fault may be on the main PCB feedback circuit and the board should be replaced.
