Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the EVgo home charger at the dedicated breaker before touching the cable or opening any covers. Do not work on live circuits.
- Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Reconnect the vehicle and check if E01 clears.
- Inspect the J1772 connector: With power OFF, examine the EVgo charge handle for bent, recessed, or contaminated pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean gently with a dry, non‑metallic brush. Do not use liquids.
- Check cable strain: Look for kinks, cuts, or crushing along the EVgo charge cable. If the cable jacket is damaged or feels soft/flat in one area, the pilot conductor may be broken and the cable assembly should be replaced.
- Test with another vehicle: If possible, plug into a different EV to rule out a problem with the vehicle inlet. If E01 only appears with one car, the issue may be on the vehicle side.
- Board inspection (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed (only if you are qualified), visually inspect the main control board pilot terminals for loose screws, burnt marks, or broken solder joints. Tighten low‑voltage terminal screws gently if loose.
If E01 persists after these checks, discontinue use and contact an EVgo‑authorized service technician to test the pilot circuit and replace the cable assembly or control board as needed.
