Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not bypass ground fault protection. Turn OFF the breaker before inspection. If you smell burning or see smoke, leave the unit off and call a professional.
- Check for moisture: Inspect the J1772 handle and vehicle inlet for water, condensation, or ice. If wet, disconnect, dry with a clean cloth, and allow several hours for complete drying before retrying.
- Inspect cable and enclosure: Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections on the EVgo cable. Check the charger housing for cracks or open grommets where water could enter. Do not use the charger if the cable jacket is compromised.
- Verify ground connection: At the main panel (or subpanel), confirm the EVgo charger’s ground wire is securely landed on the ground bar and that the breaker lugs are tight. This should be done by a qualified person with power OFF.
- Reset and retest: After drying and visual checks, turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Plug in again and see if E02 clears.
If E02 reappears, the internal ground fault sensor or control board may be defective. Do not continue using the charger; contact an EVgo‑authorized technician to test the leakage current sensor and replace the sensor module or main control board.
