Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This is a high‑voltage internal fault. Turn OFF the dedicated breaker and lock it out if possible. Do not open the charger unless you are qualified to work on 240 V circuits.
- Power reset: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. If E03 returns immediately, leave the charger off.
- Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge (with cover on), you should normally hear a distinct click from the internal contactor. If E03 appears with no click, the contactor coil or driver may be open. If you hear a loud buzz or repeated clicking, the contactor may be failing mechanically.
- Thermal check: After a failed start (and with power OFF), carefully feel the outside of the enclosure near the power entry. Excessive warmth may indicate overheated lugs or contactor.
- Internal inspection (technician level): With power OFF and verified with a meter, a technician can inspect the EVgo main power contactor for discoloration, melted plastic, or burnt smell, and verify tightness of line/load lugs.
Because of the shock and fire risk, contact an EVgo‑authorized service provider to test and replace the main power contactor or control board as required. Do not attempt to bypass or manually force the contactor.
