Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation openings, Failed internal cooling fan, High ambient temperature exceeding EVgo charger rating, Faulty temperature sensor on power module or control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before moving or cleaning around the charger. Surfaces may be hot.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the EVgo home charger (per installation manual, typically at least several inches on all sides). Remove any objects blocking vents or louvers.
  • Clean air paths: With power OFF, use a vacuum with a brush attachment to gently remove dust from intake and exhaust vents. Do not spray liquids or compressed air directly into the unit.
  • Ambient temperature: If the charger is installed in a closed garage or small enclosure, measure the temperature during charging. If it exceeds the specified operating range, improve ventilation or provide shading.
  • Power-cycle: After cooling for 30–60 minutes, turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON and attempt a short charge session. Monitor the display for E04.

If E04 recurs quickly, the internal fan or temperature sensor may be defective. An EVgo‑authorized technician should open the unit, test the cooling fan operation, and replace the fan assembly or temperature sensor harness as needed.
