Possible Causes

Shorted output wiring inside charger, Internal power module failure, Damaged EVgo charge cable conductors, Vehicle onboard charger drawing excessive current

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Overcurrent faults can indicate serious internal damage. Turn OFF the breaker immediately. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping charger.

  • Inspect cable and connector: With power OFF, check the EVgo cable for burn marks, melted insulation, or hot spots. Inspect the J1772 pins for discoloration or pitting.
  • Try a different vehicle: After a cool‑down and visual inspection, if safe, test with another EV. If E08 only occurs with one vehicle, its onboard charger may be faulty.
  • Check breaker size: Confirm the breaker rating matches the EVgo charger’s maximum current. An undersized breaker may trip but should not cause E08; however, repeated nuisance trips can stress components.

If E08 recurs with multiple vehicles, internal power electronics may be damaged. Do not use the charger until an EVgo‑authorized technician inspects and, if necessary, replaces the power module or output wiring harness.
