EVgo User Authentication / RFID Reader Fault

Charger shows E18; RFID card or user authentication fails repeatedly

Advertisements

Possible Causes

Faulty RFID reader module, Damaged front panel around reader, Software configuration error disabling local authentication, Interference from metal objects near reader

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: This is a low‑voltage issue. No high‑voltage work is needed.

  • Try multiple cards: Test with more than one authorized RFID card or fob to rule out a bad card.
  • Clean reader area: Wipe the EVgo charger’s RFID reader surface with a soft, dry cloth. Remove stickers or metal objects placed over the reader.
  • Check settings: In the EVgo app or web portal, confirm that RFID authentication is enabled and that your card is registered.
  • Power-cycle: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON and retest.

If E18 persists, the RFID reader module or front interface board may need replacement by an EVgo‑authorized technician.
