Possible Causes
Prolonged sun exposure on outdoor EvoCharge cable, Mechanical stress from repeated bending, Chemical exposure, Low-temperature embrittlement
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not use a charger with visibly damaged cable insulation. Turn OFF power and avoid flexing the cable further.
- 1. Inspect entire length: Examine the cable from the EvoCharge unit to the J1772 handle for cracks, splits, or exposed conductors.
- 2. Check strain reliefs: Ensure the cable is properly supported and not hanging by the handle alone.
- 3. Replace cable assembly: Order and install a complete EvoCharge replacement cable and handle assembly. Field repair of insulation is not recommended.
- 4. Improve cable management: After replacement, use a holster and cable hook to keep the cable off the ground and out of direct sun when not in use.
Damaged insulation can lead to shock hazards and ground faults; do not tape over cracks as a permanent fix.
