Possible Causes

Loose output terminal inside EvoCharge unit, Overheating J1772 connector, Marginal contactor contacts, Fluctuating supply voltage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power before opening the unit. Do not continue using a charger that shows signs of overheating.

  • 1. Check for heat: After a charging session, carefully feel (without touching metal pins) the J1772 handle and cable. If they are excessively hot, stop using the charger until inspected.
  • 2. Inspect internal terminals: With power OFF, open the EvoCharge unit and tighten all output terminals at the contactor and terminal blocks to specified torque.
  • 3. Examine contactor: Look for discoloration or pitting on contactor terminals, indicating worn contacts. Replace the contactor if damage is evident.
  • 4. Monitor supply voltage: Have an electrician check for voltage sags under load that could cause the charger to shut down.
  • 5. Replace connector/cable if overheated: If the J1772 handle shows melted plastic or burn marks, replace the entire cable and handle assembly.

Intermittent dropouts often worsen over time; address them early to avoid complete failure.
