Possible Causes
Worn or loose main contactor, Incorrect coil voltage, Loose mounting hardware, AC hum from aging contactor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before touching or tightening any internal components.
- 1. Identify noise source: Remove the cover (power OFF) and locate the component that vibrates or buzzes when charging (usually the contactor).
- 2. Check mounting: Ensure the contactor and any transformers are firmly mounted to the backplate. Tighten mounting screws.
- 3. Inspect contactor: Look for signs of wear or heat damage. If the contactor buzzes loudly only when energized, its coil or core may be worn.
- 4. Replace contactor: Install a new EvoCharge-specified contactor if noise is excessive or accompanied by intermittent operation.
- 5. Verify coil voltage: Confirm the contactor coil voltage matches the control circuit output; mismatched coils can hum loudly.
Mild humming can be normal, but sudden or very loud noises indicate a component nearing failure.
