Possible Causes

Weak pilot signal from EvoCharge control board, Dirty or corroded J1772 pins, Vehicle inlet contamination, Faulty pilot relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not attempt to charge if connectors are damaged or excessively hot. Turn OFF power before opening the unit.

  • 1. Try another vehicle: Plug the EvoCharge into a different EV to determine if the issue is with the charger or the original vehicle.
  • 2. Inspect and clean connector: Examine the J1772 connector pins for dirt, oxidation, or damage. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
  • 3. Check cable strain relief: Ensure the cable is not pulled tight or kinked near the charger or handle, which can stress internal conductors.
  • 4. Power-cycle the charger: Turn OFF the breaker for 2 minutes, then back ON. Attempt to start a charge again.
  • 5. Internal pilot check (advanced): With power OFF, inspect the pilot relay and wiring on the control board. Look for loose connectors or burned components. If suspected faulty, the control board may need replacement.

If the charger consistently fails to start with multiple vehicles, contact an EVSE technician for further diagnosis.
