Possible Causes

Shorted output cable, Shorted main power contactor, Incorrect breaker size or type, Internal power module failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips immediately; this indicates a serious fault. Turn OFF the breaker and leave it OFF until the issue is found.

  • 1. Inspect cable and connector: Look for obvious damage, cuts, or melted areas on the EvoCharge cable and J1772 handle.
  • 2. Disconnect vehicle: Try powering the charger with no vehicle connected. If the breaker still trips when the charger initializes, the fault is internal.
  • 3. Internal inspection (qualified only): With power OFF, open the unit and check for burned components, especially around the contactor and power module.
  • 4. Test insulation: An electrician can perform insulation resistance tests on the output cable and internal wiring to locate shorts.
  • 5. Replace faulty components: Replace any shorted cable, contactor, or power module with EvoCharge-approved parts.

Because of the risk of fire and shock, this type of fault should be handled by a licensed electrician or EVSE technician.
