Possible Causes

Damaged J1772 charge handle, Open or shorted pilot wire in charge cable, Faulty control board pilot driver circuit, Corroded pilot pin in vehicle inlet or connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the circuit breaker feeding the EvoCharge unit before opening any covers. Do not work on the charger while it is energized.

  • 1. Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then back ON. Reconnect to the vehicle and see if E01 clears.
  • 2. Inspect the J1772 connector: Check the small pilot pin (usually the smallest pin) for corrosion, bent metal, or debris. Clean gently with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush. Do not file or sand the pins.
  • 3. Check the charge cable: Run your hand along the EvoCharge output cable from the unit to the handle. Look for cuts, kinks, or crushed sections that could damage the pilot conductor. If any damage is found, stop using the charger and replace the cable/handle assembly.
  • 4. Test with another vehicle: If possible, plug into a different EV to rule out a problem with the vehicle’s inlet. If E01 only appears with one vehicle, the issue may be on the vehicle side.
  • 5. Internal inspection (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, locate the pilot output terminals on the EvoCharge control board. Check for loose connectors or burned components. If you see burn marks or melted plastic, the control board likely needs replacement.

If E01 persists after these checks, discontinue use and contact a qualified EVSE technician or EvoCharge support. Do not bypass or jumper the pilot circuit.
