Charger displays E02 and refuses to energize; vehicle does not begin charging.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not continue trying to charge when a ground fault is indicated. Turn OFF the breaker before inspection.
- 1. Visual inspection for moisture: Examine the J1772 connector and the area where the cable enters the EvoCharge unit. Look for condensation, water droplets, or corrosion. If wet, allow the connector and cable to dry completely in a warm, dry area for at least 24 hours.
- 2. Check for physical damage: Inspect the entire length of the EvoCharge output cable for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections. Any exposed conductor or deep damage requires cable replacement.
- 3. Inspect enclosure seals: Verify that the EvoCharge wallbox cover is fully closed and that gaskets and cable glands are intact and tight. Look for signs of water ingress (rust, water stains).
- 4. Reset the unit: After drying and inspection, turn the breaker back ON and attempt a charge. If E02 clears, monitor closely for recurrence, especially after rain or washing the car.
- 5. Internal GFCI check (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, locate the ground fault current sensor (toroid) around the output conductors on the EvoCharge control board. Ensure the conductors pass cleanly through the sensor and that the sensor connector is firmly seated on the board.
If E02 persists, the internal ground fault circuitry or cable insulation may be compromised. Do not bypass the safety system; have the unit serviced or replaced by a qualified technician.
