Possible Causes

Welded main power contactor, Faulty contactor feedback microswitch, Control board contactor driver failure, Overheating of contactor terminals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: This fault involves high-voltage switching components. Turn OFF the breaker and verify absence of voltage before opening the unit. If you are not experienced with electrical work, contact a professional.

  • 1. Power-cycle: Turn OFF the breaker for 5 minutes, then turn it back ON and attempt to charge. Sometimes a transient error can clear.
  • 2. Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge, you should normally hear a distinct click from inside the EvoCharge unit. If E03 appears with no click, the contactor may not be energizing. If you hear a loud buzzing or repeated clicking, the contactor may be failing.
  • 3. Inspect wiring (power OFF): Remove the cover and locate the main power contactor. Check that all line and load terminals are tight and show no signs of overheating (discoloration, melted insulation).
  • 4. Check feedback wiring: Many EvoCharge models use a feedback signal from the contactor to the control board. Ensure the small control/feedback wires are firmly connected and not damaged.
  • 5. Replace contactor if welded or burned: If the contactor contacts are welded closed or the housing is burned, the entire contactor assembly must be replaced with an EvoCharge-approved part. Do not attempt to file or repair the contacts.

Because of the high current involved, contactor replacement and testing should be performed by a licensed electrician or EVSE technician.
