Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and verify no voltage is present before opening the unit. Surge components may have been exposed to high energy.
- 1. Visual inspection: Open the EvoCharge enclosure and locate the surge protection components (MOVs or dedicated surge module) near the input terminals. Look for cracking, charring, or discoloration.
- 2. Check for odor: A burnt smell near the input area often indicates MOV failure.
- 3. Replace surge components: If MOVs or the surge module are visibly damaged, replace them with EvoCharge-specified parts. Do not substitute with random components.
- 4. Inspect surrounding circuitry: Check the input terminal block and nearby traces for damage caused by the surge.
- 5. Consider external surge protection: After repair, have an electrician install a whole-house or dedicated surge protector upstream to reduce future events.
If E16 persists after component replacement, the control board may also have been damaged by the surge and require replacement.
