Possible Causes

Open or shorted contactor coil, Broken coil wiring, Failed contactor driver transistor on control board, Incorrect coil voltage supplied

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power and verify absence of voltage before working near the contactor.

  • 1. Listen for coil activation: When starting a charge, if there is no click from the contactor, the coil may not be energizing.
  • 2. Inspect coil wiring (power OFF): Locate the two small wires feeding the contactor coil. Ensure they are securely connected and not damaged.
  • 3. Measure coil resistance: With the coil disconnected and power OFF, use a multimeter to measure coil resistance. An open circuit or near-zero ohms indicates a bad coil.
  • 4. Replace contactor: If the coil is defective, replace the entire contactor with an EvoCharge-approved model with matching coil voltage.
  • 5. Check driver circuit: If the coil tests good but never energizes, the driver transistor or relay on the control board may be faulty, requiring board repair or replacement.

Because the contactor switches high current, ensure all work is done by a qualified technician and all connections are torqued correctly.
