Possible Causes

Damaged proximity switch or resistor in J1772 handle, Broken proximity conductor in cable, Contaminated or bent proximity pin, Faulty PP sensing circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power before inspecting the connector closely.

  • Inspect the handle latch: Ensure the mechanical latch on the J1772 handle moves freely and is not jammed. The proximity circuit is often linked to this latch.
  • Check connector pins: Look for bent or recessed pins, especially the smaller signal pins. Do not attempt to bend pins back with metal tools.
  • Test cable movement: Gently flex the cable near the handle while plugged into the vehicle (with power OFF) to see if the latch or proximity switch feels intermittent or loose.
  • Try another EV (if available): If the error only occurs with one vehicle, the vehicle inlet proximity contact may be damaged.
  • If E10 persists with multiple vehicles: The proximity circuit in the handle or the PP sensing on the main control board is likely faulty. Replace the J1772 cable and handle assembly. If that does not resolve it, replace the main control board.
