Possible Causes
Broken proximity switch in J1772 handle, Damaged proximity wire in charge cable, Debris preventing latch from fully engaging, Faulty proximity input circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the charger breaker before inspecting the cable in detail.
- 1. Inspect the latch: On the J1772 handle, verify that the latch moves freely and fully returns when released. Remove any dirt or ice that may block movement.
- 2. Check handle for damage: Look for cracks around the latch area or signs that the internal switch may have been impacted.
- 3. Test with gentle pressure: With the vehicle plugged in and charger powered, gently press and release the latch while watching the charger display. If the status does not change, the proximity circuit may be open.
- 4. Cable inspection: Examine the cable near the handle for kinks or crushing that could break the proximity conductor.
- 5. Replacement: If the latch feels loose or the handle is cracked, the entire Ford charge cable and handle assembly should be replaced. Internal switch repair is not recommended.
- 6. If a new cable does not resolve E007: The control board’s proximity input may be defective and require replacement by a technician.
