Possible Causes

Intermittent pilot signal due to loose cable connection, Faulty vehicle charge port, Electrical noise on pilot line from nearby equipment, Defective pilot input circuit on charger control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Keep the area around the charger dry and clear. Turn OFF the breaker before opening the unit.

  • 1. Inspect and reseat connector: Unplug the J1772 handle from the vehicle and plug it back in firmly until you hear a positive click.
  • 2. Try another outlet circuit (portable units only): If using a Ford portable home charger, plug into a different dedicated circuit to rule out interference.
  • 3. Check for interference sources: Turn off or move high-power devices (welders, large motors) that may inject noise onto the electrical system during charging.
  • 4. Cable and handle inspection: Look for damage to the cable or handle that could intermittently break the pilot conductor.
  • 5. Test with another vehicle: If E011 only occurs with one vehicle, the issue may be in that vehicle’s onboard charger or charge port.
  • 6. If E011 occurs with multiple vehicles and a good cable: The pilot input circuit on the charger’s control board may be failing and should be replaced by a technician.
