Possible Causes
Stuck or jammed connector lock mechanism, Failed lock actuator motor, Broken lock position sensor, Foreign object in lock assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the connector out of the vehicle. Turn OFF the breaker before attempting mechanical work on the lock.
- 1. Check for obstructions: Inspect the area around the connector lock (if external) for debris, ice, or dirt. Gently clear any obstruction.
- 2. Attempt software unlock: Use the FordPass app or charger interface to send an ‘unlock’ command if available.
- 3. Manual release (if provided): Some chargers include a manual release tab or screw inside the enclosure. With power OFF and cover removed, follow the manual to mechanically release the lock.
- 4. Inspect actuator and wiring: Look for loose connectors or damaged wires going to the lock actuator and position sensor.
- 5. Replace actuator assembly: If the motor is seized or the sensor is broken, the entire lock actuator assembly should be replaced by a technician.
