Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the charger’s dedicated breaker at the main electrical panel before touching the unit or cable. Do not attempt repairs if you smell burning or see melted plastic.
Steps to try:
- Power cycle the system: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then back ON. Reconnect the vehicle and see if E01 clears.
- Inspect the J1772 connector: With power OFF, examine the charge handle used with GM EVs (e.g., Chevy Bolt EUV, Cadillac Lyriq) for bent, recessed, or corroded pins—especially the small pilot pin. Clean light debris with a dry, soft brush only. Do not use liquids.
- Check for cable strain: Look for kinks, crushed sections, or cuts in the GM wall charger output cable. If the cable jacket is damaged or feels soft/melted, stop using the charger.
- Test with another GM vehicle (if available): If a second GM EV charges normally, the issue may be on the original vehicle’s charge port side rather than the charger.
- Reset and retest: After inspection, restore power and plug in again. If E01 returns immediately, the control pilot circuit or connector assembly is likely faulty and the unit should be serviced or replaced by a qualified technician.
Do not open the sealed charger enclosure unless you are qualified; internal high‑voltage components can remain energized even when the breaker is off.
