Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the dedicated GM charger breaker. Do not use the charger if you see water inside the connector or enclosure.
Steps to try:
- Check for moisture: Inspect the J1772 connector and the area where the cable enters the GM wall charger. If you see condensation or water, allow the connector and cable to dry indoors for at least 24 hours. Do not use heat guns or hair dryers.
- Inspect for physical damage: Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections on the cable. If copper conductors are visible or the jacket is deeply damaged, the cable must be replaced.
- Verify outlet/feeder ground (hardwired or receptacle): Have a qualified electrician confirm that the charger’s ground conductor is properly connected at the service panel and at the charger’s terminal block.
- Power cycle: After drying and inspection, restore power and attempt to charge again. If E02 reappears immediately with a dry connector and intact cable, the internal GFCI module or control board is likely defective.
Do not bypass or defeat the ground fault protection. If E02 persists, contact a licensed electrician or GM‑authorized service provider for replacement of the charger.
