Possible Causes

Stuck or welded main output contactor inside charger, Faulty contactor driver circuit on control board, Excessive arcing due to repeated hot‑plugging, Mechanical wear of GM internal contactor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker immediately if you hear loud clicking, buzzing, or smell burning from the charger.

Steps:

  • Power cycle: After turning the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, turn it back ON and observe if E09 appears before plugging in the vehicle.
  • Listen during start: When you plug in (with the cover closed), you should hear a single, clean click from the internal contactor. Rapid chattering or no click suggests a contactor or driver issue.

Internal contactors in GM home chargers are not user‑serviceable. A welded or failing contactor is a fire and shock risk. Do not continue using the charger; arrange for replacement by a GM‑authorized service provider.
