Possible Causes

Unauthorized cover removal detected by internal tamper switch, Repeated failed authentication via GM app, Misaligned door/cover sensor inside charger

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not attempt to bypass safety switches.

Steps:

  • Check enclosure: Ensure the GM charger front cover is fully closed and latched. If recently serviced, verify all screws are installed and tightened.
  • App unlock: Open the GM charging app and check for any lockout or security notifications. Clear any alerts and unlock the charger if the app provides that option.
  • Power cycle: Turn OFF the breaker for 2 minutes, then turn it back ON and see if E17 clears.

If the tamper switch or cover sensor is misaligned or defective, the charger may remain in lockout. Internal adjustment or replacement of the sensor should be performed only by a qualified technician.
