Possible Causes
Moisture inside J1772 handle, Damaged EV cable insulation, Contaminated or wet vehicle charge port, Internal GFCI sensor fault on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the circuit breaker feeding the Grizzl‑E and unplug the unit (if on a plug‑in model) before touching the cable or opening any covers.
- Inspect for moisture: Check the J1772 handle and the vehicle charge port for water, snow, or heavy condensation. Gently dry with a clean, lint‑free cloth. Do not use heat guns or hair dryers directly on plastic parts.
- Check cable insulation: Run your hand (visually, not by touch if wet) along the EV cable from the Grizzl‑E housing to the J1772 handle. Look for cuts, deep abrasions, or crushed sections. If any copper is visible or the cable jacket is split, discontinue use.
- Reset the charger: After everything is dry, restore power at the breaker. Press the physical reset button (if equipped) or power‑cycle by turning the breaker OFF for 30 seconds and back ON. Reconnect to the vehicle and observe LEDs.
- Isolate the issue: Try a different EV if available. If E01 appears with multiple vehicles in dry conditions, the internal GFCI circuitry on the main control board may be faulty.
- When to stop: If the error persists after drying and inspection, do not bypass or defeat the GFCI. The unit should be serviced or the control board replaced by a qualified technician.
