Possible Causes
Failed proximity switch in J1772 connector, Broken proximity wire in EV cable, Stuck or damaged latch mechanism on handle, Loose proximity connection on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF the breaker before inspecting the cable entry or internal terminations.
- Check handle latch: Inspect the J1772 handle latch for smooth movement. If it is jammed, cracked, or does not spring back, the proximity switch may not change state correctly.
- Visual inspection of cable: Look for kinks or crush points near the handle where the proximity wire is most likely to break.
- Internal wiring check: With power OFF and cover removed, verify that the proximity conductor is firmly secured in its terminal on the main control board.
- Test on another EV: If available, test the handle on a different vehicle to rule out a vehicle‑side latch detection issue.
- Resolution: If the latch is damaged or the proximity circuit is open/shorted, replace the EV charging cable assembly with J1772 connector.
