Possible Causes
Faulty PWM generator on main board, Short or open circuit on CP line, Incorrect resistor network on Type 2 socket, Interference from external wiring near CP conductor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate mains and unplug the vehicle before working on CP circuits.
- 1. Inspect CP wiring:
- Open the charger and locate the control pilot (CP) conductor from the main board to the Type 2 socket or tethered cable.
- Check for damage, loose terminals, or pinched insulation.
- 2. Check Type 2 socket:
- Inspect the CP pin in the socket for corrosion or deformation.
- Clean gently with contact cleaner if needed.
- 3. Test with another vehicle/cable:
- Try charging a different EV or use a different cable (for socketed units) to rule out vehicle‑side issues.
- 4. Measure CP signal (qualified personnel):
- Using an oscilloscope or EVSE tester, verify the CP PWM duty cycle and voltage levels.
- Abnormal waveform indicates a main board fault.
- 5. Replace main board if PWM faulty:
- If CP driver is defective, replace the main control board.
