Possible Causes
Incorrect current setting in Jaguar wallbox configuration, Short circuit or partial short in Type 2 cable, Internal contactor contacts welded or damaged, Vehicle drawing current above configured limit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the charger and upstream breaker before inspection. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker without finding the cause.
- Step 1 – Check current setting: Using the Jaguar wallbox app or internal DIP switches (model dependent), verify that the maximum current is correctly set for the circuit rating (e.g., 32 A on a 40 A breaker).
- Step 2 – Inspect cable: Look along the entire length of the Jaguar tethered cable for cuts, kinks, or melted insulation. If any damage is visible, do not use the charger until the cable is replaced.
- Step 3 – Try a different vehicle: Connect another EV to see if the overcurrent fault is vehicle-specific. If only one vehicle causes E04, have the vehicle inspected.
- Step 4 – Internal contactor check (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, inspect the main power contactor for signs of overheating or welded contacts (discoloration, smell of burnt plastic). If suspected, the contactor must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Insulation test: A qualified technician should perform insulation resistance tests on the output circuit and cable to rule out internal shorts.
