Possible Causes
Low or unstable control voltage from main board, Loose coil wiring to contactor, Failing contactor coil, Supply voltage sagging under load
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Rapid switching can stress components. Turn off power if chattering persists.
- Check supply voltage: Have a qualified person measure voltage at the charger during a start attempt. Significant sag may indicate an undersized or overloaded circuit.
- Inspect coil wiring (power OFF): Open the unit and ensure the small-gauge wires to the contactor coil are secure and not frayed.
- Contactor replacement: If the coil is noisy or shows signs of overheating, replace the main power contactor.
- Board control issue: If voltage and contactor are good, the main control board may be rapidly enabling/disabling the coil due to a sensing fault and may need replacement.
