Possible Causes
Pilot signal out of tolerance, Proximity switch not detecting latch, Vehicle not fully in Park or with door open, Faulty J1772 connector or cable
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not attempt to force the connector into the vehicle. Turn off power before inspecting internal wiring.
- Verify vehicle status: Ensure the vehicle is in Park, doors closed (for some models), and any charging settings in the vehicle are enabled.
- Reseat connector: Unplug the J1772 handle, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in firmly until you hear/feel the latch click.
- Test with another EV or EVSE: Try charging the same vehicle on a different station, and another vehicle on this JuiceBox. This helps isolate whether the issue is with the car or the charger.
- Inspect connector and cable: With power OFF, check the J1772 handle for bent pins, debris, or damage. Examine the cable for cuts or severe kinks. Replace the J1772 charge cable assembly if any defects are found.
- Internal pilot/proximity check (advanced): With power OFF, verify that the pilot and proximity wires are securely connected to the main control board. If all wiring is intact and the problem persists across vehicles, the main control board may be faulty.
