Possible Causes
Marginal GFCI sensor sensitivity, Loose input or output terminals heating under load, Overheating of contactor or cable, Unstable supply voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you notice burning smells or very hot components, stop using the charger and turn off power immediately.
- Monitor temperature: During a charge, periodically feel (carefully) the cable and enclosure. They should be warm at most, not too hot to touch. Excessive heat suggests loose connections or undersized wiring.
- Check input and output terminals (power OFF): Open the unit and tighten all terminal screws on the input block and contactor. Look for discoloration or melted insulation and replace any damaged wiring or terminal blocks.
- Try lower current: Reduce the maximum current in the app and see if the session becomes stable. If so, the issue may be supply-related or thermal.
- Inspect cable and connector: Look for damage or signs of overheating on the J1772 handle and cable. Replace the J1772 charge cable assembly if needed.
- Utility voltage check: Have a qualified person monitor supply voltage during charging. Large dips or spikes can cause the charger to stop.
