Possible Causes

Vehicle driven over cable, Cable pinched in garage door, UV or weather degradation, Animal chewing on insulation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not use the charger if any conductor is exposed or the cable jacket is compromised. Turn off power at the breaker.

  • Inspect entire length: Carefully examine the cable from the JuiceBox strain relief to the J1772 handle for any damage.
  • Do not tape over damage: Electrical tape is not an acceptable repair for EVSE cables. The entire J1772 charge cable assembly must be replaced.
  • Replace cable assembly: With power OFF, disconnect the existing cable from the internal terminals or connector, install the new cable per manufacturer instructions, and ensure the strain relief is properly tightened.
  • Prevent future damage: Use a cable hanger or holster to keep the cable off the ground and away from vehicle tires and doors.
